If you want to live and work, study or start a business in South Africa the first thing you need to do is find and apply for the correct work visa.
This work visas is issued to a foreigner who has a job offer. The visa holder will work for a specific employer as shown on the work visas. This category of visa has proven to be extremely difficult to obtain. Key requirements – Prepare a request for a certificate from the Depart of labour.

(only submitted once the Department of Labour advise that they have completed their process to furnish the required certificate to Home Affairs)

If applying in South Africa New Horizons will register your application on the Visa Facilitation Service centre Website, set a date to submit the application, allocate a staff member to monitor the progress of the compilation of your application to meet the date set for submission and collect the outcome of the application at the centre.
If applying abroad New Horizons will communicate electronically to ensure that the applicant has a copy of the complete application for submission. New Horizons will also communicate with the South African employer to assist with the compilation of the required supporting documents.
If you are lodging an application for a work visa and require a waiver of certain prescribed requirements then New Horizons can assist with a formal request for a waiver.
What is a waiver?
A waiver is a request for an exemption from having to submit a prescribed supporting document when submitting an application. A waiver can be requested from having to submit a certificate from the Department of Labour when submitting a work visa application or a waiver from having to submit an evaluation of qualifications by the South African Qualifications Authority.
This visa is issued to a foreigner who has skills or qualifications determined to be critical for the Republic. The Minister has published a list of occupational categories determined to be critical skills required in South Africa.

Key requirements – New Horizons will assist:
- The applicant to identify the most suitable occupational category on the critical skills list.
- To register with the correct professional body as a member and to request a certificate of support for the critical skills visa from the professional body.

Intra- Company Transfer work visa – This visa is issued to a foreigner who is employed by a foreign company for 6 months plus and will be transferred to a branch, subsidiary or an affiliate company in South Africa. The visa is issued for a period of four years and may not be extended.
Key requirements –
- Local and foreign affiliated/subsidiary Companies which will support the application
- A minimum of six months of employment with the foreign Company, and continuation in their employment.
- Skills Transfer Programme.

If applying in South Africa (usually an extension of the visa if the initial period of issuance
was not for the full four year period) New Horizons will register your application on the Visa

member to monitor the progress of the compilation of your application to meet the date set
for submission and collect the outcome of the application at the centre.
If applying abroad New Horizons will communicate electronically to ensure that the applicant

Own business visa – issued to a foreigner intending to establish or invest in a business in South Africa.
- Certificate by an appointed chartered accountant confirming that the minimum foreign financial investment has been made or can be made – amount R 5 million
- A recommendation from the Department of Trade and Industry (where the foreign investment is less than the prescribed amount and the industry falls under the listed strategic industry list as published by the Minister (New Horizons will advise and assist) and the Department of Labour (to show that 60% of staff compliment is South African or permanent resident – New Horizons will assist)
Corporate visa – issued to a South African corporate to employ foreigners who may conduct work in the Republic. Where a corporate requires a large number of unique staff for a limited period and can motivate that these skills are not available locally
- Certificate by the Department of Labour – New Horizons will advise and assist
- Certificate by the Department of Trade and Industry – New horizons will advise and assist
